Ismertető: Films, television, advertising, video clips, and computer games--all are fair game and useful material for Swiss artist Olaf Breuning. In his photographs, videos, and installations, Breuning engages with the reality of the vast array of media that surround us incessantly, day in and day out, appropriating narratives, images, and characters to create unforgettable and eerily familiar hybrids. Through unlikely medleys that juxtapose such disparate elements as the accoutrements of occultism, new-age fads, and vampire films, mixing together disgust, sweetness, kitsch, horror, levity, and gravity, Breuning shows that nothing is too sacred or profane to warrant inclusion in one of his playful, weirdly subtle compositions.- További ismertető: "Belelapozás".

Olaf Breuning is one of the most paradoxical artists working today. His work is like a television set that has been posessed by the devil. Photos that walk the fine line of children's birthday parties and the devil himself. Olaf has a firm grasp of the uncanny, like Vanessa Beecroft he frequently borrows a classic page from Arbus and creates tableauxs of twins. But unlike Beecroft's 5th avenue dominatrix mannequins- Olaf's groupings, and their gothic wal-mart aesthetic, just seem to be all too knowing. A cult of like minded suburbanites who are out to get you. Olaf is a genius at combining pop cultural influences to create one of the most diabolical life works imaginable. Cavewomen turn out to be cult members. Vampires are middle aged swingers who murder. Tennis players are mutant serial killers. I would have appreciated more on Olaf's video works and sculptural works. But for that I would buy the other monograph called "Home". Olaf is definitely evil, and definitely an artist to be watching!
